Dry Thyme Product Specification

• Product Description: Dried thyme is prepared from the leaves and flowers of Thymus species (family Lamiaceae), harvested at proper maturity, cleaned, dried, and processed. It can be offered as whole/intact leaves, crushed/rubbed, or ground powder. The leaves typically range from green-ash to brownish grey in color with a characteristic strong, aromatic thyme aroma due to volatile oils like thymol and carvacrol.

• Physical Appearance: Flat to slightly curled leaves, color varies green ash to brownish grey; dried flowers purplish pink to brownish pink. Free from foreign odor, mustiness, mold, and live insects.

• Quality Factors:

  • Moisture content: Maximum 12%

  • Extraneous vegetable matter: Max 0.5%

  • Foreign matter: Max 0.5%

  • Visible mold: Max 1%

  • Insect damaged leaves/flowers: Max 1%

  • Must be free from live insects and practically free from dead insects, fragments, and rodent contamination visible to the naked eye.

• Composition: 100% dried thyme leaves/flowers, free from GMO material.

• Odor and Flavor: Characteristic strong aromatic thyme flavor and aroma, free from foreign odors.

• Storage: Store in a cool, dry area protected from light and moisture, ideally at 20-25ºC with max 60-70% relative humidity.

• Shelf Life: Usually up to 24 months if stored in unopened, appropriately sealed packaging.

• Packaging: Available in bulk, packets, jars. Packaging keeps herb dry and uncontaminated.
